Astoria Life: New York Minutes

Musings from the Queen of Queens, or My 6 years of living in Queens and greater NYC, where I moved to work for the water department and ended up, among other things, traveling the world and appearing on a billboard on Times Square.

ad in London

My friend JDM was running the London marathon this last weekend and saw my ad for Microsoft at Mile 13 by a Saab dealership.

My cousin SQ also saw it in Waterloo Station, which is like NYC's Penn Station

It is also in the 23 April 2007 edition of the New Yorker.

Raccoons!!!!

At 6 am, I was leading my bootcamp into Central Park at W 77th Street when we saw two huge raccoons way up high in a tree. They looked way too big to be up on branches so thin. Yet they did not fall down.

George Eliot the Rabbit, 6 Oct 1996 to 18 April 2007

I had to put George, my nearly 11-y-o rabbit, to sleep today. He suffered another stroke and could barely walk, and had stopped eating, drinking and peeing. The vet said if George was his, he would put him to sleep too.

It really is a very peaceful process (just an OD of anesthesia) and George is in a better place now. But he is my oldest and best friend, and I miss him a lot.

Hitting the big time with my first billboard!

My ad for Microsoft (shot Sept 8, 2006) was released today and I am on my own billboard in Times Square, no less, at 50th and 7th! (check it out at www.office2007.com I am not on the website itself, but the people from my shoot are.)

Even better, it is right by the hotel that fired me back in 2005! Now they have to look at me all day! ha ha

so now I am going to be one of those billboards that I wrote about in this blog on Sept 4, 2004 in "So ironic":

I can't help but think it is ironic how everyone feels aneed to take photos of the billboards in Times Square, which invariably are of the same ads in magazines that everyone ignores.
