Musings from the Queen of Queens, or My 6 years of living in Queens and greater NYC, where I moved to work for the water department and ended up, among other things, traveling the world and appearing on a billboard on Times Square.

Hee hee

I just overheard one coworker ask another if she was going to the workshop on "smoking sensation."

She meant "cessation".

A weird unintended compliment.

This morning, I washed a load of laundry at the laundromat around the corner. because it was so close by, I went out in some sweats to get it when it was dry.

An older guy chomping a cigar told me it was too cold to be out just like that. Then he said in a concerned voice, "You're too young to know what I'm talking about. Go talk to your mother about it."

I am 36 years old and haven't lived in my parents' house since 1995.

Happy 20th anniversary to the Fall of the Berlin Wall!

I remember on Nov 9, 1989, my Catholic school broadcast over the PA the United Nations playing John Lennon's song "Imagine" when the Berlin Wall fell.

Happy birthday, Sesame Street!

Sesame Street turns 40!

Sesame Street debuted on Nov 10, 1969 and has been going strong ever since. Its first episode was brought to you by the letters W, S & E, and the numbers 2 & 3.

The show was first taped at Teletape Studios at West 81st Street and Broadway, then at Dick Cavett's old studio at 9th Avenue and West 55th Street, and then to its present home (since 1993) at Kaufman Astoria Studios in my neighborhood, Astoria!

I always knew Astoria looked like Sesame Street. Turns out I was right!
