Astoria Life: New York Minutes

Musings from the Queen of Queens, or My 6 years of living in Queens and greater NYC, where I moved to work for the water department and ended up, among other things, traveling the world and appearing on a billboard on Times Square.

Twin barbers!

So ... it turns out that the barbers on my block at Queens Elegant Barber (29-22 Crescent Street) are identical twin brothers!

They cut hair (almost) in unison. It's pretty cool!

A secret garden at NYU

A friend of mine showed me this when he went to his appointment at NYU Medical Center in midtown (where I work, as well).

It's a Center for Horticultural Therapy that looks just like a beautiful garden, complete with koi pond (and massive goldfish), an African grey parrot, finches, doves, various other birds and a rabbit named Butterscotch.

It's beautiful, and the perfect place to reflect with nature and forget about my mean nasty a**hole boss.

Massive snowstorm!

And I love it! We have almost 17 inches and it keeps on coming down. Granted, it is not all a winter wonderland -- a man was killed by a falling tree branch on Literary Walk in Central Park yesterday, and another tree fell on a bus at 60th & Park yesterday evening. But for the most part, it is nice to have a natural event that forces NYC to slow down with its rah-rah self. Mother Nature always wins.
