Astoria Life: New York Minutes

Musings from the Queen of Queens, or My 6 years of living in Queens and greater NYC, where I moved to work for the water department and ended up, among other things, traveling the world and appearing on a billboard on Times Square.

City Island, here I come!

Today I went to City Island, this little island all the way by the North part of the Bronx. It is called "a bit of New England in New York City." It takes about the same amount of time to get to as New England too.

That's because I had to take the 6 line all the way to the end, but the train broke down and thus everything was mad slow and so crowded there was a riot at 86th Street. Then none of the cabs would go into the Bronx because of the afternoon traffic.

By the time all that settled down, the trains were working again and I got all the way up there.

Basically, City Island is a tourist trap (this is a direct quote from the people I met there) because they charge $50 for a lobster. To its credit, it does look a whole lot like Gloucester, Massachusetts. People even have boats up there and go fishing. It is also near Pelham Park, which is 3 times the size of Central Park (which is itself larger than the prinicpality of Monaco.)

It was worth the trip, though perhaps not a return journey. Next time, I'll head ALL the way in the opposite direction and get to Coney Island.
